A lot of people don’t know this, but Justin and I actually first met at a bar called Mutt Lynch’s in Newport Beach back in 2012. I immediately thought he was cute and wanted a reason to talk to him. His friend, Matt, was wearing a Yankees hat, and since my uncle used to play for them, I figured that would be the perfect ice-breaker. We chatted for a bit and hung out a handful of times, but nothing really came out of it... Fast forward to 2016, when one morning, I got a Facebook friend request from a familiar face. Shortly after accepting his friend request, we met up for drinks on Easter Sunday at Billy’s in Newport. It was the most comfortable date I’ve ever been on; as if we had picked up where we left off. We have been inseparable since!
It was a normal Saturday, and we had planned to have dinner with Justin’s boss that evening on the premise that he was expecting a promotion. I was so excited for him! While getting ready, I noticed Justin laying down on the floor staring at the ceiling... probably contemplating the question one last time. ;) On the way to San Juan Capistrano, he mentioned we needed to stop to help his mom, Cheryl, with something at her school at the Mission. Little did I know, he was grabbing the ring from her. We had some time to kill, so he suggested we take a walk around the Mission before heading to dinner. As we reached the fountain in the middle of the courtyard, Justin got down on one knee and popped the question. He even had a photographer there to capture the moment. I was so overwhelmed with happiness, but there was still more to the surprise. Unbeknownst to me, Justin had been planning this day for upward of 3 months. We went across the street to Hennessey’s Tavern, and walked in to see some of our family and closest friends waiting to celebrate us! It was sensory overload, but I could not have imagined a more special moment.
