Jessee Gabe Paxton and Kelsey Lynn Ashlock’s love story began on April 7, 2024, with a first date that was anything but ordinary. Meeting at the Oklahoma City Zoo, they quickly discovered a shared curiosity for the world and each other. From talking about their favorite musicals and Broadway shows to lingering by the elephants and giraffes, it didn’t take long for a special connection to form. The day ended with barbecue at a nearby restaurant, where friendly competition took over as they quizzed each other on U.S. states and capitals—setting the tone for a relationship built on laughter, learning, and genuine connection. Just a couple of weeks later, on April 22, 2024, they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. Though distance separated them—Kelsey living in Yukon near Oklahoma City and Jessee in Owasso near Tulsa, more than 130 miles apart—they never let it slow them down. Weekend after weekend, they took turns making the drive, choosing time together over convenience and building a love grounded in commitment and effort. Their adventures together soon expanded beyond Oklahoma. They celebrated the Fourth of July in Texas, cheering as the Padres defeated the Rangers, and later traveled to Kansas City to watch the Royals play and explore the Kansas City Zoo. Kelsey even joined Jessee on a work trip to Atlanta to watch him receive an award. Every trip added another chapter to their growing story and confirmed that life was simply better together. On May 24, 2025, Jessee asked Kelsey to spend forever with him—and she joyfully said yes. A few months later, Kelsey made Owasso her home, beginning a new chapter as a teacher at Collinsville Upper Elementary. Her love for books—especially historical fiction—continues to inspire those around her, as does her appreciation for simple joys like chicken tenders and French fries or a warm pretzel with cheese. She enjoys country music and never turns down a song by Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran. Jessee brings an adventurous spirit to their partnership, fueled by his passion for travel and baseball. Together, they dream of many future journeys. A Christmas trip to New York City is high on their list, along with a Seattle-to-Alaska cruise—complete with a Seattle Mariners game that will mark Jessee’s final MLB stadium to complete his tour. On June 26, 2026, they look forward to beginning the greatest adventure of all: marriage. Surrounded by family and friends, Jessee and Kelsey can’t wait to celebrate the love that started with a zoo date, grew across miles, and continues to flourish with every shared dream.
