A mutual friend arranged for us to meet at a Halloween party in October 2017. Jared arrived dressed as a crocodile and was told to look for the "purple dinosaur". After being introduced, sparks began to fly as we discussed our love for Jesus, nature, Africa, sports and (of course) the Texas Longhorns! Friends started to whisper and notice the chemistry we had. Before Jared left the party, he summoned the courage to ask for Kelsey's number. With a few witty exchanges, our first date was set for two days later!
A week before our 1-year anniversary, Jared set-up an "interview" with a friend of a friend that owns a home in Malibu, CA to show us his property as a potential future wedding venue. Jared explained that there was construction on his street and we needed to enter through the beach access. After strolling along the beach at Point Dume towards "the potential wedding venue", we climbed over a small rock and into a protected cove where a picnic had been prepared. Jared dropped to a knee and said, "Kelsey Nicole Carr: you are my best friend and love of my life ... will you marry me?" Through tears and laughter, Kelsey said "YES!" The surprises weren't over. After we enjoyed the private moment together, we came back to our car and a blindfold had been placed on the passenger seat for Kelsey. Jared blindfolded Kelsey and led her across the street to surprise engagement party that included family and friends from all over California, Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois. Needless to say, Kelsey was completely shocked to see everyone and overwhelmed with joy and emotion. It was a perfect day!
