Our First Date

Every great love story has a beginning, and ours started in the most romantic place imaginable… Applebee’s. It wasn’t fancy. There were no candlelit tables or violin music. Just two slightly nervous people meeting for the first time, hoping the other one wasn’t secretly weird. Dalton and Kelsey sat down, pretending to study the menus like we hadn’t already decided what we wanted five minutes earlier. When the waiter came, we ordered the exact same dinner. That should have been the first sign we were meant to be. From the moment the conversation started, it never stopped. We laughed about everything! Awkward stories, bad jokes, and probably things that weren’t even that funny. Somehow, neither of us could wipe the smiles off our faces. It was one of those nights where time flies and you don’t even notice. By the end of dinner, it felt like we had known each other way longer than just a few hours. Instead of saying an awkward goodnight, the date turned into more talking, more laughing, and eventually Dalton staying the night. We cuddled (yes just cuddles) until morning like we had done it a hundred times before. When the sun came up, reality called—Dalton had to go to work. But Kelsey, already playing the role of supportive future wife, sent him out the door with an iced coffee to start his day. And just like that, a simple first date at Applebee’s turned into the beginning of forever.

Our Family of 7

Every family has a story, but ours didn’t start in the usual way. It began with two separate lives, two sets of kids, and two people, Dalton and Kelsey, who fell in love and decided to blend it all together. Blending a family isn’t always simple. It takes patience, laughter, grace, and a whole lot of teamwork. But from the very beginning, we knew we were building something special. What started as “his kids” and “her kids” quickly turned into our kids Cayson, Sedona, Avery, Elliana and Dutton. Five unique personalities, five big hearts, and five reasons our home is always full of energy and noise. Over time, separate routines became shared traditions. Two households became one. New memories replaced old worries. And when Dutton came along, he completed our family in the sweetest, most perfect way. Now our days are a beautiful kind of chaos. Mornings are filled with backpacks, breakfast requests, and the never-ending search for missing shoes. The dinner table is crowded and loud. The laundry piles up faster than seems humanly possible. And somehow, the fridge is always empty. But our home is also filled with nonstop laughter, inside jokes, movie nights piled together on the couch, and more love than we ever imagined. Each child brings something special to our family. Cayson keeps life fun and adventurous, and always ready to play the role of the oldest. Sedona is our wild and carefree spirit, always ready for the next bit of excitement. Avery is sweet and sensitive, with a heart as big as her smile. Ellie is giggly and strong, full of joy and determination. And little Dutton, the baby of the family, reminds us every day how perfectly our puzzle came together. Dalton and Kelsey may be the parents, but most days we’re really just referees, chauffeurs, snack makers, and professional huggers. Some days are messy. Some days are loud. Most days are a little bit crazy. We’re often asked how we do it all, but every single day reminds us how lucky we are to have found each other. We didn’t start out as a family of seven—but we chose to become one.
