We had only been at Texas A&M University for a couple months in the fall of 2011 before we were set up. My best friend from high school and then roommate Chandler was dating Bain, who lived in Schuhmacher Hall with Connor. I'd like to think that our friends had a good reason for introducing us, like that they thought we were a match made in heaven or something. But in reality, Chandler knew I'd previously dated a redhead and Bain couldn't stand Connor's girlfriend at the time. Before long, we were having our first date at Chili's, one of the classiest establishments in College Station. We continued to fall in love in the woods, cutting down trees every weekend to build Bonfire, a tradition that requires 2,000 characters of its own to explain, so come and chat with us about it at the reception. We continued to date throughout undergrad - eventually Connor pursued a Master's degree while I entered veterinary school. In the spring of 2018 we parted ways, neither of us knowing it would be only temporary. Connor moved to Washington while I finished vet school in Texas, and it seemed unlikely we would meet again. However, a two-week externship brought me to Seattle in February 2019, and we reconnected. During my first weekend, Connor acted as my tour guide as we visited the Space Needle, Museum of Pop Culture, and the Pike Place Market. We decided to get together the weekend after that to drive down to Portland for a comic con. As the weekend drew to a close, it became clear that neither of us wanted our story to end there. In the summer of 2019, after I'd graduated from vet school and matched with UC Davis for my residency, we both moved to California to restart our life together. We got engaged in February of 2020 at a ski resort on Lake Tahoe, one year after rekindling our relationship in Seattle. We bought a house in May that we share with our two cats, Navi and Minnie. It was nine years in the making, but we've finally found our "happily ever after."
