How We Met (again)

The Real Story of Kismet

Sierra and Kelsey met in the fall of 2022 in the most millennial way possible: on Hinge. The algorithm did its thing and suggested they meet. Both almost didn’t go — not because they weren’t interested, but because they were tired. Thankfully, they showed up anyway. What was meant to be a simple first date turned into an entire afternoon of talking. They covered everything: the good, the hard, the history, and what they each wanted from love. It was easy. It was honest. It felt different. Less than 24 hours later, Kelsey asked Sierra to an impromptu Paper Kites concert. They both managed to show up at the wrong venue — separately, of course — before finding each other. The night ended on a rooftop overlooking the city, where they shared their first kiss. On the way out, Kelsey promptly fell flat on her face. Within the next week, Sierra visited Kelsey and fell getting out of the car. Two weeks later, Kelsey tried to cook Sierra dinner for the first time, took out the trash, fell again, and broke her foot. You could say they were falling for each other. About a month later, boot and all, Kelsey headed to Sierra’s father’s house to meet him for the first time and attend a concert. While talking about their family histories and where they were from, something clicked: their dads were from the same place. After a quick phone call — and a necessary stop at a brewery — they realized their dads didn’t just know each other. They were friends. They worked together, shared a love of music, and stayed connected as they built their lives and families. Which means Kelsey and Sierra had actually met before. Years earlier, as kids. Kelsey, a shy kid offering up Lunchables. Sierra, bold and ready to play. They met without knowing that years later, an app and a little chaos would bring them back together. Now those girls are getting married. Kelsey doesn’t have to share Lunchables anymore — the love of her life cooks enough for both of them. The rest is history.
