In 2015, Kelsey was introduced to Harrison’s uncles who worked in the same school division. They hosted many of the staff parties at their beautiful Riverwood Cottage that Kelsey attended. She had no idea that over those three years she was walking within steps of her future husband, who resided in the small cottage next door. During the third year, Kelsey was invited to the uncles’ annual Gala-themed Christmas party. On this night, Kelsey walked into the cottage in a floor length red gown, silk gloves, + rhinestone heels. The first person she saw was their neighbor and nephew, who was clearly not up to the dress code. Harrison stood in the kitchen with his steel toed boots, Carhartt jacket, and oil stained jeans. Kelsey was there mainly for the food, as usual, and in her starving state raced straight towards her favorite egg rolls, ripping off a silk glove as she did so. A voice broke her out of her hunger filled stupor when it said, “So the gloves are coming off are they?” *crickets* Eventually, they sparked their first conversation underneath the decorative wooden glasses that reminded them both of The Great Gatsby. When they finally got to sit down, she remained skeptical as he failed at conversation, leading to his request to “try again tomorrow.” She gave him her number, only to realize once they departed that it was the wrong number. She found him on social media and sent him an approval for his request and an application of intent. Harrison and Kelsey met for the do-over the very next day, and ever since they have known few days apart. Three years, three dogs, three transitions in housing later they have found a home in each other that they never wish to lose. Kelsey and Harrison understand that the timing of life changing events arrive when they are supposed to arrive. Unsteady seas have been braved to achieve the peace that they have found in one another and hope to keep forever more. As their song goes, “I’m yours and that’s it...whatever.”
