We met in the traditional, romantic way; swiping left and right on Bumble. For those of you who don’t know, Bumble is an online dating app where the girl is required to message first. Kayla had just returned to Denver from a week long trip to her hometown in upstate New York. To be honest, Scott was everything she wasn’t looking for but (obviously) everything she needed. According to Scott, Kayla’s first message to him, which said “hey, how are you?” was not a message he typically would respond to but did. After less than a week of very easy conversation back and forth, Scott asked Kayla out to dinner for our first date. Since this was during COVID and there were still crazy restrictions at restaurants, the one Scott had planned on going to had a two hour wait and only seating outside, in the middle of winter and a snowstorm. The backup plan; we went to the grocery store and Scott cooked street tacos for us! It wasn’t Scott’s street tacos that won Kayla over, even though they were delicious, but it was the effortless flow of conversation, or as we say interview, and comical banter back and forth. After that first date, we both made efforts to see each other as much as possible since Scott worked all nights and Kayla worked a normal 9-5 job. In the first few weeks we went on multiple dates a week and we both QUICKLY realized we were each other’s person.
