THINGS TO DO

For anyone who is spending some extra time on the island, here are a few (or more than a few) of our favorite spots.

OLD POST OFFICE BAGEL SHOP

123 Corn Neck Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5959

Breakfast spot with the greatest muffins. Also highly recommend a BLT on an everything flagel.

PERSEPHONE'S KITCHEN

235 Dodge Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5070

Good for coffee drinks and smoothies.

PAYNE'S DONUTS

1 Ocean Avenue, New Shoreham, RI 02807

Warm sugar and cinnamon donuts. Get a few because they are addicting.

BETHANY'S AIRPORT DINER

4 Center Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-3100

Sip Bloody Mary's and eat pancakes while you watch the planes land.

ERNIE'S OLD HARBOR RESTAURANT

212 Water Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 207-9231

Hungry Persons Special.

BLOCK ISLAND FARMERS MARKET

26 West Side Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807

A bunch of different stuff from local vendors. Runs from 9-1130am on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You'll probably find the twins here the morning of the wedding.

THE NATIONAL HOTEL

36 Water Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-2901

Get a banana mudslide.

THE OAR

221 Jobs Hill Rd, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-8820

Used to be the go-to spot for fried chicken and sushi. Sadly, they don't serve fried chicken anymore, but the sushi is still top quality. Arguably the best view of the sunset on the island.

THE SURF

32 Dodge Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5505

Don't send James to the bar because he will come back with four mudslides with caramel floaters. But tough to beat lounging on the couches out back overlooking the water.

SPRING HOUSE HOTEL

51 Spring Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5844

The other big white hotel on the island with a decent view. The espresso martinis are dangerous.

ELI'S

456 Chapel Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5230

Rosemary makes the best margarita. Food is pretty phenomenal too.

WINFIELD'S

214 Corn Neck Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5856

Ask for an order of the bread and garlic to go.

BLOCK ISLAND OYSTER BAR & GRILL

251 Spring Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-2110

At the Manisses. Sit out back on the patio.

THE YELLOW KITTENS

214 Corn Neck Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5855

Darts and pool. Plus guacamole.

CLUB SODA

35 Connecticut Avenue, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5397

Dive bar with lots of games (including Golden Tee and the hook and ring game thing).

POOR PEOPLE'S PUB

33 Ocean Avenue, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-8533

Narraganset pitchers for $16 and all the comfort food.

BEACHEAD

598 Corn Neck Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-2249

Get the boat table if you can.

MAHOGANY SHOALS

133 Ocean Avenue, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5572

Dock side bar with live music.

DEAD EYE DICK'S

218 Ocean Avenue, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-2654

Fire pits out back overlooking the harbor.

THE ICE CREAM PLACE

227 Weldon's Way, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-2145

Liz (Alex's mom) believed this was homemade for most of her life. Up until one summer when James shattered the illusion and revealed it was actually Turkey Hill - something he took great joy in doing. Still the best ice cream on the island (real homemade is across the street is you prefer).

MOHEGAN BLUFFS

New Shoreham, RI 02807

200-foot clay cliffs with a beach (rocky beach is probably more accurate) at the base. Walk (or run if you can) the stairs and build a rock tower.

SOUTH EAST LIGHTHOUSE

122 Mohegan Trail, New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 466-5009

Sits at the top of the bluffs overlooking the Atlantic (Ocean, not the Inn), including the Windfarm.

BLOCK ISLAND NORTH LIGHT

Corn Neck Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807

The other lighthouse on the tip of the island. The actual best view of the sunset.

SCOTCH BEACH

New Shoreham, RI 02807

Or third post. It may not be beach weather exactly but still a beautiful place to walk and you'll probably run into some pups.

COAST GUARD BEACH

Champlain Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807

The boys favorite fishing spot. We have a few rods if anyone wants to borrow.

RODMAN'S HOLLOW

New Shoreham, RI 02807
, (401) 331-7110

Hiking and biking trail. For anyone looking to rent bikes, Beach Rose Bicycles is located at the Rose Farm Inn (right behind the Atlantic). Also a bunch of spots in town to rent as well.

ABRAMS ANIMAL FARM

1 Spring Street, New Shoreham, RI 02807

Camels, llamas, goats, a yak, lemurs, red kangaroos, and a tortoise and the hare. Right across the street from The Atlantic.
