Shasta is not a culinary city, but there are some good options. All these spots are in town. Groceries: Berryvale (natural grocery store) Mt Shasta Supermarket (good for meat which is locally sourced) Breakfast: Mt. Shasta Pastry (delicious scones, bear claws, coffee cake. We love their biscuits n gravy. Best breakfast in town). Oven Bakery (croissants, cinnamon rolls, fresh bread). Closed on Saturday. Lunch/Dinner: Garden Tap (delicious pizza in a nursery, good selection of local beers, probably our favorite spot) Yaks (big dank burgers, salads, breakfast burritos) Pipeline (burgers, salads, bar food) Mt Shasta Supermarket (bomb ass made to order sandwiches, local favorite) Alua's (fresh kombucha, acai bowls, smoothies) Black Bear Diner (this is the original restaurant... the chain started in Shasta... try it if you dare) Mt Shasta Tap Room (run by a nice couple, they specialize in bratwurst and their homemade pretzels are BOMB! They also have a wide selection of local beers)
You can walk through the entire town within 20 minutes. Our favorite spots: The Crystal Room (wide selection of sound bowls, crystals, spiritual things, has a cool "homey" vibe) Soul Connections (this is the tourist bang bang spot, has everything you could ever spiritually need) Moonrise Canyon (vintage clothing + locally made goods. We both sell our products here and Tyrus the proprietor is amazing. You can find really cute things at good prices :) Definitely our favorite store in town). Astrologer / Readings: Mount Shasta Astrologer is a reader and astrologer. Lucien has gotten some excellent readings from him. Need to make a reservation before: www.mountshastaastrologer.com Mt Shasta Skatepark: SK8 OR DIE bro! You ever rip with an Alien? Beam me up!
Our favorite lake featuring crisp and clean mountain runoff water. Great for swimming, hanging, and hiking. Start at Castle like and hike to Heart lake (the path is well marked). It's a 45 minute easy-moderate hike and you'll arrive to Heart lake which is a tiny heart-shaped lake up in the mountains. Beautiful spot for swimming and to eat lunch. Bring water, snacks, crocs, and sunscreen.
Search "panther meadow trailhead" for directions. This is the closest hike you can get to the mountain. Beautiful, easy trail through a meadow featuring volcanic rocks and grassy hills. A creek runs through it too.
Incredibly lush, tropical waterfalls. Directions: Park on the road in front of Cave Springs Motel. Then walk down the hill under the Shasta Retreat sign. Take a right through the private street, then turn left and walk over a small one-lane car bridge. You will see railroad tracks. Take a right and walk along the tracks. It's about a 30 minute walk along the tracks. BE CAREFUL! This is an active track and a train will come by. Get the F out the way when it does :) There is a sign that says Mossbrae Falls, turn right and walk down a short trail and you will be at the falls. Truly magical and worth the walk. You are instantly transported into a tropical lush paradise. Water is cold but you can swim if you're brave. Bring lots of water and sunscreen.
