We recommend as a must do during your trip. It does take a little extra planning and time so definitely count for that when scheduling. The best way to get there is flying into the city of Cusco where you can take a train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Cusco is a very unique destination in itself so consider an extra day or night to explore the city and grab a meal or two.
A few hours south of Lima, you can find an area called Ica and Paracas. Both with unique activities, they are often toured together. Paracas is a small town located just on the boarder of the Paracas national reserve. In town they offer ATV tours of the reserve, boat trips to see seals and other wildlife at the Islas Ballestas, and plane rides for a birds eye view of the mysterious Nazca Lines. A trip to Ica also usually includes a stop at the oasis la Huacachina.
Almost directly on the equator, northern Peru offers visitors three of the most beautiful beaches on the country’s entire coast. An approximately 1 hour and a half flight from Lima, the first of these three beaches is Vichayito, and continuing north travelers arrive at Mancora and, finally, Organos. The warm waters of these seas offer gastronomic delights very different from those found in Lima, beginning with the superb lobsters prepared in a thousand and one different ways. And the waves? According to surfers from all over the world, they’re the best.
