His business acumen made him, in his day, the richest man in America. Now a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this extraordinary landmark has been continuously and meticulously maintained for more than 100 years.
Playland, often called Rye Playland and also known as Playland Amusement Park, is an amusement park located in Rye, New York on the Long Island Sound. Since 1928 the 280 acre amusement park has been the source of entertainment for millions who are looking for family fun with a little bit of thrill seeking! There is plenty of fun for the whole family with Thrill Rides, Family Rides, Kiddyland, the Casino, and Concert Series Stage (currently none are listed on the website).
This prime waterfront site has been turned into a public park offering magnificent views stretching to the Manhattan skyline. Features include a riverside esplanade, grass terraces and lawns, and an “eco-corridor” filled with native plants. The parks is a segment of the county’s planned 51-mile RiverWalk and adjacent to Tarrytown’s Pierson Park.
The Kensico Dam was completed in 1917. It is 307 feet high and 1,843 feet long, and forms the Kensico reservoir. As if the magnificent structure itself wasn't enough, the park offers activities such as picnicking, nature study, walking, inline skating and you might even get a chance to see cultural heritage celebrations, concerts or a fitness class! "The Rising", Westchester county's September 11th Memorial, is located at the intersection of many pathways and viewpoints, and thereby extends its presence into the surrounding landscape. "The Rising" is an open structure, can be approached from all directions and allows people of all ages and abilities to view it as well as move through it.
Lyndhurst is one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis. Its vast collection of art, antiques, and furniture have remained largely intact due to the mansion’s use primarily as a country residence. In most instances, the furnishings are original to the house. The arrangement of the rooms reflects the lives of one of the three major families and the five major owners that lived here. As such, the mansion reflects the development of American identity and taste during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow and Old Dutch Burying Ground was founded around 1685, this is the church and churchyard that appear in Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The church’s 2.5-acre burying ground is, of course, the purported haunt of the headless horseman, and also the resting place of local citizens who likely inspired Irving’s characters of Katrina Van Tassel, Brom Bones, and others in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
