Colby and I both attended CSUF and were in the uber competitive Musical Theatre program. There were very limited numbers of men in that program so I knew exactly who Colby was all the while he had no idea that I existed haha. It wasn't until our sophomore year that we truly met when we finally had ballet class together. Each semester the number of classmates dwindled and by our junior year there were only 10 of us in the BFA program! Needless to say we all became very close friends. Colby had become one of my best friends and after we graduated we realized it could be something more...
Palm Desert has always been a special place for the both of us. Every summer the Rosales family would drive all the way from San Jose to the Desert and vacation there because my grandparents had a timeshare there. Colby's grandparents have a condo just across the street from where we would stay every summer. There's some invisible string theory for you! Now Colby and I still try to go at least once a year to enjoy those memories and the heat. So what better place for him to choose than there? He took me up to the Ritz Carlton in Rancho Mirage and with the help of his sister, Carissa, and cousin, Bailey, had planted the ring on the ledge of the fire pit that overlooks all of Palm Springs. It was sunset the view was absolutely stunning. As we walked out to that fire pit and I noticed the box I couldn't believe what was about to happen. We both kind of ignored the elephant in the room for a moment before I turned to him. His eyes were glassy as I asked him if he was okay. He said he was, reached for the box, and knelt down on one knee. Everyone always asks if I cried and honestly I didn't! I think I was just in shock that that this thing we had talked about for a while was actually happening. In the end he was very proud of himself that I didn't have a single clue.
