We met by chance during the end of our Junior year at Loyola University New Orleans. Monroe 317 was nothing more than an empty classroom, a convenient place to do work for an hour or two, chosen independently by each of us among many equally empty classrooms. We knew of each other when Kelly opened the door to find Bradley intruding on her usual study spot, and it didn't take long to notice a chemistry of sorts brewing even as we both took turns playing various degrees of dumb about it. After a few months of back and forth -- perhaps with some irrational confidence and utter persistence on Brad's part, and some wisdom and vision on Kelly's -- we decided to make things official. It was quickly clear to friends, family, and observers of all kind how seriously we felt. Graduation and graduate school admissions presented a two-body problem, but with commitment to one another and a fair amount of luck we navigated that and found ourselves both in PhD programs in the DMV doing what we love -- Bradley at UMD for electrical engineering, Kelly at GWU for cognitive neuroscience. Moving in together wasn't a leap after we spent almost the first year of our program practically living together in Kelly's Foggy Bottom apartment. We've spent the years since then in our rowhome basement apartment in NW DC and look forward to wherever and whatever comes next. The many years together have brought us to new places, given us two cats with whom we're obsessed, and so much joy and many possibilities.
