Ben and Kelly met at the Zeal Young Adults Ministry at Core Church LA. For about a year, they greeted each other in passing, never imagining that God was writing something much bigger behind the scenes. Everything started to shift the summer they served together on the Media Team at VBS, a Christian Summer Camp for kids. Serving side by side changed everything. They truly believe the Lord gave them eyes for one another, during that time. Ben looked forward to Kelly's text messages asking him for extra help while he was running sound. He couldn’t believe she was “hearting” his messages… not realizing she hearted everyone’s messages back then. For Kelly, everything changed the day she saw Ben interact so joyfully with the children. Watching him laugh, run around, and care so naturally melted her heart. His kindness and servant heart made her see him in a completely new light. Shortly after VBS, they realized they were both invited on a camping trip to Utah. As they prepared for the trip and shopped for camping gear together, it gave them more time to talk, laugh, and get to know each other. Ben chose to pursue Kelly with patience, covering their relationship in prayer from the beginning. Kelly did not rush; she sought the Lord first, watching Ben’s actions consistently reflect his character. Before the camping trip, Kelly hosted a bonfire at the beach for her birthday. Ben made it special by choosing a thoughtful gift, bringing the wood, and preparing the fire. What stood out the most was the way he played with her little niece and nephews. In that moment, her heart shifted even more. The Utah trip became a turning point. Long hikes and meaningful conversations brought them closer, but one lake moment sealed it. Kelly assured Ben of her swimming skills, so he swam farther out with her. When the water became too deep and the elevation hit her, she realized she was in danger. At that point, she reached her hand out, and his hand found hers in the water. Something about that moment stayed with them both. The week they returned, Ben walked Kelly to her car after Zeal and made his intentions known. He told her he wanted to take her out on a real date. Soon, Ben officially asked Kelly to be his girlfriend at Candy Cane Lane in Rancho Palos Verdes. They both thank the Lord for bringing them together! From serving side by side, to stepping into a marriage covenant, their prayer is that the beginning of their love story will always point back to the One who wrote it.
