It was January of 2017 in Chapel Hill. Both Kelly and Addi had just arrived back on campus after Christmas break to start their second semester of freshman year. Their first semesters had been a bit of a whirlwind and they wanted to start the semester off on a good foot by leaving a little earlier than normal. Kelly bundled up in her Granville dorm before making the hike down past the old well towards the quad. Addi threw on some shorts and took the Ehringhaus trail past the bell tower. They met in the middle of campus at Bingham Hall for their first day of English 105 a whole 15 minutes early for their 9:05 class. Unexpectedly with these two, conversation ignited instantly. They began playfully teasing each other about their hometowns and living on north vs. south campus like they had known each other for years. They talked about majors, hopes and dreams and seemingly in an instant, 15 minutes flew by. “I might be new to this whole being early thing, but shouldn’t other people be here by now?” Addi said. They both looked down at their phones to check their email and started laughing. “IMPORTANT – ENGLISH 105 CLASSROOM CHANGE” was written in at least 3 notifications in both of their inboxes. They continued to laugh at themselves as they headed over to the new classroom and were met with a classroom full of stares as they shuffled in and found a seat. They never could have guessed that that conversation at the wrong place at the right time would still be going on today.
