Check out the shops and restaurants in Downtown Newport!
Tour the mansions of the Vanderbilts and other historic families that “summered” in Newport in the early 1900s. Our favorites include Rosecliff, the Breakers, the Elms, and Marble House.
Located in the heart of downtown Newport, Bowen's Wharf offers beautiful nautical grounds to walk along. You can see the yachts and schooners docked along the wharf, while enjoying the sights. There are a variety of great restaurants (Black Pearl, The Mooring, Clarke Cookhouse, and 22 Bowens to name a few!) and local shops to check out, and it's easy to spend a good portion of the day here. We recommend continuing to stroll along Thames Street by the water for more shopping and food!
Just a short drive from downtown Newport, Fort Adams is a historic site and the largest coastal fortification in the United States. Visit this engineering and architectural masterpiece to see where the soldiers lived, enter the casemates, explore the tunnel system, and climb the bastions for breathtaking views.
Some of our favorite restaurants in Newport! Castle Hill Inn - located on the water on Ocean Drive with amazing views of the Newport Bridge! Cocktails on the lawn at sunset, lunch, and dinner can't be beat! We recommend making a reservation for dinner, with first-come, first-served on the lawn. Clarke Cook House - wonderful for lunch and dinner. The main level and terrace are more casual, and sometimes has live music! Check out the Sky Bar for more formal dining. Black Pearl - great outdoor patio if the sun is shining and a cozy vibe inside. Best chowder in Newport! The Mooring - a classic seafood restaurant great for lunch or dinner. We love the calamari + lobster rolls! Pasta Beach - one of our favorite Italian spots in Newport, with excellent pizzas, pastas, and cocktails! Bar 'Cino - the best grilled pizzas and great Italian food! Stoneacre - excellent for brunch or lunch. We love the biscuits! Empire - one of our favorite casual spots for breakfast and coffee!
