Although we attended the same church for much of our childhood, God kept our paths from crossing. It wasn’t until a youth group mission trip to Guatemala in 2017 that Heather first noticed Cody and began to develop a crush. After the trip, Cody served his time in the Army, and Heather finished school and returned to Idaho for college at NNU. Their paths crossed again during a young adults Sunday school class, where a friendship began to grow. Each of us faced personal tragedies that tested our faith and resilience, but God used those hard times to draw us closer to Him—and to each other. As we spent more time together, our bond deepened. After many group outings, including seeing Top Gun with friends, we knew something special was growing. We’re excited to begin the next chapter of our story, blessed to embrace a God-honoring marriage surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends.
If it had been up to Cody, he would have proposed after just three months of dating. Although Heather knew she loved him, the recent death of her best friend had left her heartbroken. She needed time to heal and wanted them to grow together through the brokenness. Cody patiently supported her through her grief, even traveling with her to Guatemala as chaperones on a youth mission trip, where he met her Abuelita and Abuelito. Finally, after two years of waiting and healing, Heather was ready to believe that no “meteor” was going to come and take her blessings away. On July 20th, Cody planned a surprise date. Heather had no idea where they were going. The first stop was the Tower Grill, where they had their first date. Next, they went to the gym, a nod to their shared love of fitness. Then came a surprise trip to the Boise Art Museum, a place they had always meant to visit. At the museum, they created art block prints of rainbows in the interactive section, symbolizing God’s promises. Finally, Cody swept her away to a quiet spot near Lucky Peak, where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him! There were tears and joy as they listened to worship music and celebrated God’s hand in their lives. They finished the day with ice cream at The STIL, where a kind stranger paid for their treats.
