"Real love happens when you least expect it." I met Kellie during our 3rd year at UC Irvine. We were introduced through Joycelin, who is one of my roommate Ben's best friends. We started out as friends hanging out on the weekends playing video games and badminton, not expecting anything more than a friendship. However, the more time I spent with Kellie, the more and more I found myself wanting more than just a friendship. As I got to know her, I soon discovered that she was one of the funniest, light hearted, most thoughtful and compassionate people I knew. I knew she had captured my heart when I couldn't stop thinking about the next time I would be able to see her. I had to show her how I felt before it was too late. One night we were watching Wreck-It Ralph and Kellie mentioned that one of the candies in the movie looked like a candy she liked, but couldn't remember the name. To sweeten her up, I searched the internet for the candy as soon as she left and surprised her with it the next time I saw her. That box of candy helped to seal the deal! We then started dating and the rest is history. I knew that Kellie was the one when I wanted to drop everything just to spend even the shortest amount of time with her. I even agreed to adopt Mika, who became the glue to our relationship, only three months after we started dating! Now, after 8 years of dating, 2 dogs, and way too many many years of long distance, we can't wait to celebrate our wedding day with you!
November 9th, 2019 was the first day Kyle was coming back from dental school for Thanksgiving Holiday. I was so excited for us to go do an escape room to celebrate his birthday as we have done in the past couple of years. Private escape rooms is one of our favorite activities because we love how it challenges our mind, but also tests our communication skills as a couple :) We've never failed an escape room before so we weren't going to start today! During the first couple puzzles, Kyle kept asking how much time we had left because we kept getting stuck on the puzzles. In my mind, if he's already getting stumped, then we're screwed for the rest of the room! We were able to get through most of the room with one of the final puzzles that opened up with a handwritten note. By that time, I felt extremely pressured to get us out of this room in time since Kyle was stuck on most of the puzzles! It started out with my name and this long message, and I said, "wow, the escape room wrote a letter just for me for this room!" I took the note and ran into the other room thinking it was a clue to a puzzle that I couldn't solve for the longest time! Kyle, kept telling me multiple times to "READ THE NOTE". That's when it finally clicked that it was his handwriting and he got down on one knee..... I was overwhelmed with shock because I had no idea this was the day that would define the rest of our relationship. I have no idea what Kyle even said to me because my brain was trying to process everything that happened, but at least I knew I was able to say Yes! After it all, I found out he actually planned this months in advance and knew all the answers to the puzzles already and my best friend was waiting outside with our two dogs at the end. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect proposal that highlights our personality and our relationship.
