Joe and Kellie met the summer of 2012 in Okoboji. There were only a few weeks of summer left before Kellie was set to attend her freshman year at the University of Northern Iowa and Joe would be returning to his sophomore year at Iowa State. They spent those last moments of summer together as much as possible.. late night boat rides, walks along the harbor, and dinner dates at Maxwells quickly made things serious between the two. It didn't take long for Kellie to visit Joe in Ames for some football tailgating and fall in love with Iowa State. Kellie decided to transfer at semester (she swore it wasn't for a boy!) and four amazing years later, Joe and Kellie walked across the graduation stage together and returned to Okoboji. As they were building their careers, Joe and Kellie purchased their first home together in 2016, brought home their sweet goldendoodle, Penny Lou, and enjoyed traveling in their free time. On one of those trips to Hawaii in 2019, Joe finally popped the question on the beach in Maui to which nobody was surprised, Kellie said yes!
