The first drink was at a small wine bistro in Santa Fe, NM -- Kelley labored long and hard to get Mike to say anything about himself. Mike could tell things weren't going well and had to do calming breaths in front of the bathroom mirror. Apparently that first date was "good enough"... 2 dogs (Gunner & Dobby), 3 states (NM, CA, NY), and 4 years later, Kelley and Mike got engaged on the dock of the family cottage on Cayuga Lake, NY. In the midst of the pandemic, they celebrated with their beloved dog Gunner, and virtual friends and family from all over the country on a tiny iPad screen. Mike has taught Kelley many of life's hacks: how to get $1 coffee at the gas station, how to take the bus, and how to check Motel 6 rooms for bed bugs. Kelley brings out the best in Mike, forcing him to (1) strengthen familial ties, (2) put his laptop down, and (3) to laugh -- he laughs with her when they're together, at her when they're apart, and in anticipating driving home because he knows she's singing and dancing inside.
