Highlands has a number of hotels and small inns/lodges plus home rentals such as AirBnB and VRBO. There is no central hotel, however 200 main seems to be popular among people who have already booked. We've included several options on the travel page!
Even if you fly in to Atlanta or Asheville, you will most likely need a car to get to Highlands. Once there if you stay on Main Street, you can walk to restaurants, shops and several hikes. The church is right on Main Street and shuttle service will be provided to the reception venue.(Highlands Country Club). There will also be valet parking at HCC. If you want to explore further, a car is needed. All accommodations have parking on site. There are currently no ride share companies (Uber, Lyft, etc.) that serve Highlands.
If you have time, you should explore some of the natural beauty of the plateau. Our favorite close waterfall hikes are Secret Falls (easy-moderate) and Dry Falls (easy, with handrails). Close to town hikes are Sunset Rock (walkable from town), Satula Mountain (walkable from town) and Whiteside Mountain (short drive from town). The Highlands Hiker is a great resource for hikes and equipment.
