In the beginning...

March 2019

Linda Miller is a counselor I work with in Mulvane. Her office is next to mine and we have gotten close over the last few years. She was walking outside of my office one day and exclaims, "Oh my gosh!" I was in a panic thinking that a child was running or Linda had hurt herself or that something was happening in the office! I was so confused when I met her out in the hallway. She was beside herself saying that she knew who she should set me up with! I rolled my eyes a little but could not help help by smile with the look of joy and excitement on her face. She showed me a picture of Adam and asked if she could set something up. I said that she should go for it and I would let her know if anything came of it.

Fast Forward to June

June 1 is a big day

3 months passed before I heard from Adam. Linda would ask periodically if I had received a message. I reassured her that I would let her know. Adam and I both work in elementary schools so I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was super busy. Those last few months are full of deadlines and meetings so I figured he was preoccupied. On the last day of school, he sent me a Facebook message. He told me that his brother had given him my information and was interested in setting up a date. We set up a date to meet on June 1 at Norton's <3. Leading up to our date, my best friend, Lauren, and I were in Vegas on a little vacation. I was tagged in post about a dog from the school psychologist that I work with. Candice knew I loved corgis and here was this perfect, little guy. Toby was 7 and needing a good home. I remember thinking that I was not actively looking for a dog but how could I pass up my dream dog! I took a chance and filled out the application. I was checking out of Vegas when I got the confirmation and set up an interview that I did in the Las Vegas airport. I arrived in Kansas City that night and the rescue told me that they would contact me later as they had a few other inquiries about Toby. The next morning I had a missed call. When I called back, they told me that Toby was mine. I drove to Wichita the next day and picked Toby up. I remember being in shock. He was so cute but I had nothing for a dog. I scrambled to gather some things for him and had a pep talk with him that I had a date but I would be back soon. I went on my date to Norton's with Adam and he asked for my number afterwards. The rest is history! Got my two special guys on the same day.

The Proposal

March 2020

People were asking when I thought a proposal was happening. Their guesses ranged from my birthday to Christmas to Spring Break. I had a feeling that Spring Break would be the luck timeframe. Adam and I were planning on going to Table Rock Lake and relaxing. Table Rock is one of my most favorite places so I figured it could happen there. I also had a heads up it was close to happen as Adam and I never went ring shopping together but he had asked me what I wanted a couple of weeks prior to the vacation. Then... Covid hit. I was so upset about not going on vacation and the chaos of our jobs that ensued. It was overwhelming to think about but the one thing that kept my grounded was Adam. He was reassuring through it all and said that even though we weren't going on vacation, it was going to be okay. He then got a call from his brother and went to the bathroom to talk which I thought was really strange. We had helped Matt and Kelsey (my now brother-in-law and sister-in-law) move into their new house. As we were leaving, Adam told me that we were hanging out with them the next day. Second clue. We never made plans with them last minute! Plus, we were also there for Matt's proposal to Kelsey so it was fitting that they would be there for ours. Third clue. Adam was talking to his dad that evening. Adam was in the other room, I could hear him saying my name and he got a little louder. I remember saying, "What?" I was tuned in thinking he was off the phone. Then, I heard him say, "Yep, tomorrow is the day." "Shoot! I should have not heard that!" I thought to myself. The next day, I got to Adam's and noticed he had gotten a haircut and was insistent that I had good walking shoes on. Final clue! We walked to The Keeper of the Plains. Kelsey and I walking far up and the boys trailing. I figured Matt had the ring because Adam didn't want me to know. Adam got down on one knee and said, "It is a beautiful day and I am with the most beautiful girl. Will you marry me?"
