Spanish Moss Trail

Spanish Moss Trail, Beaufort, SC

The Spanish Moss Trail ‒ The Lowcountry’s Rails to Trail ‒ is a 10-mile greenway located in Northern Beaufort County, South Carolina. The Trail is a 12-foot wide, paved path dedicated to those who want to walk, run, bike, fish, skate, scoot or stroll ‒ offering spectacular Lowcountry water and marsh views, coastal wildlife viewing, and historic points of interest as it meanders through Spanish moss-draped neighborhoods.

Hunting Island State Park

Hunting Island State Park is a 5000-acre, semitropical barrier island located 15 miles east of Beaufort, South Carolina. Hunting Island boasts pristine white sand beaches, miles of hiking trails through the maritime forest, fishing in Fripp Inlet, the lagoon, and the ocean, a Nature Center with live animal exhibits, a camping area with easy access to the beach, and a recently updated Visitor Center with murals of the ecosystems on Hunting Island.

The high tide tour takes you through the marsh and beside the historic district. The low tide tour takes you out to a sandbar where you can test your skills with a cast net.

Hunting Island Dolphin Cruise A fun and educational ecotour to explore the salt marsh estuary as we look for native bottlenose dolphins by Hunting Island State Park! We’re also likely to see bald eagles, ospreys, brown pelicans diving for fish, roseate spoonbills, wood storks, herons, egrets and other shorebirds! Beaufort History Cruise In this cruise along the Beaufort waterfront the captain shares stories about local history, beginning with Native Americans and into Spanish exploration, French settlement and English colonization. Along the way, we’re likely to see playful bottlenose dolphins, nesting bald eagles and ospreys on the hunt. St. Phillips Island Ferry A naturalist-led ecotour along the Story River to the St. Phillips Island. You’ll have time to beach comb, hike interior trails or simply relax on the beach with a picnic. After your ramblings on this pristine barrier island, the tram will take you back to the dock for the return trip to the mainland.
