How We Met

September, 2014- San Francisco, CA

Keith says: Following a long day at Fort Mason with friends, we were wrapping up the day at Tacolicious, when Taylor Binder noted, “You know what? You’d really get along with my co-worker Katelan! She’s new to SF - I’m going to invite her out.” Exhausted after a long day, I told her I was planning on heading home, to which she replied, “I already invited her, so you’re coming.” And it’s a good thing I did, because that day we did hit it off and have been together since. Katelan says: I had just moved to the city and started my new job at ZeroCater. I met a friend at work (shout out to Taylor Binder!) who invited me out with her and her friends one weekend. I show up to Tacolicious, a neighborhood favorite Mexican restaurant, and meet a great group of people...but one who I especially clicked with, Keith! Little did I know, they were setting us up! We hit it off right away and had our first official date that next week (pizza and beer!) and the rest is history :)

The Proposal

May 26th, 2018- Santa Barbara, CA

Keith says: I told both families of my plan to propose on an upcoming trip to Napa, with the intention of instead popping the question in Santa Barbara. I booked dinner for the night we arrived at a place by our hotel that only had a 5pm reservation. This would work perfectly for a sunset proposal, but who under 75 eats dinner at 5pm? After insisting we leave by 9am, & Katelan forcing a 10:30 departure, I was on the clock. It was a very anxious, high-speed drive with the possibility of a botched proposal weighing heavily, as Katelan asked, “who books a 5pm res!?” We arrived with 30 mins to spare, cleaned up, & raced to dinner. I thought she would know something was up as I couldn't finish my meal but certainly finished my cocktail. As the sun started to set I grabbed a pre-packed bag with the ring & bottle of wine & headed to the beach. I waited nervously as the last stragglers left, reached into the bag, took a knee, & asked her to marry me. It was the happiest night of my life & I look forward to topping it on 9/21/19! Katelan says: We planned a trip to Santa Barbara for a long weekend at a beautiful hotel on the beach! Keith planned a nice dinner on our first night & the plan was to leave early Saturday to arrive on time to check in & make our oddly early dinner reservation at 5pm. In "Katelan" fashion, I took my time with no pressure to leave early. In "Keith" fashion he was rushing me out the door! The drive down wasn't the smoothest with traffic, an In-n-Out stop, & a mishap at the gas station where we both forgot to fill the tank! We miraculously made it on time & had an amazing meal ending right around sunset. Keith sneakily packed a bag with a blanket, wine & THE RING! After taking selfies (my famous "boomerang") & watching the sunset, next thing I know Keith is down on one knee with the most beautiful ring & asked me to marry him! I was completely surprised & had immediate tears along with my definite YES! It was the best surprise of my life!
