Joanna and Keith's paths crossed for the first time in April 2015 when they met in the base officer's club at Osan Air Base, South Korea. At the time, Keith was interested in becoming a psychologist and requested to speak to anyone working in that line of work through an old classmate. (Thankfully Joanna talked him out of this career consideration.) The classmate introduced Keith to Joanna and they became friends after exchanging email addresses. During a work trip to Hawaii just a month later, Joanna met up with Keith again, which further solidified their friendship. In January 2016, they officially began dating while they were both oceans apart; Keith was stationed in Hawaii and Joanna had relocated to Turkey in late 2015. Despite the 12 hour time difference and the turbulent swells of the depths of the ocean between them, their love flourished and grew stronger during that year of separation. They eventually moved to California in January 2017, where they could finally be physically together and share life's journey together. Two years later in May 2019, after surviving and growing through life's inevitable ups and downs, Keith proposed to Joanna after she returned from a late shift at work. With their chinchilla Intrepid present to bear witness, Joanna accepted the proposal. Less than a month later, they were legally married in a civil ceremony in Auburn, California in the presence of a small group of family and friends.
