We met at a songwriting retreat that we both were invited to attend through a mutual label we were connected with. We got placed together in writing groups multiple times throughout that week and eventually started forming a connection through our songwriting sessions. Completing the retreat, Keila returned back to California and Lemuel back to Texas and we stayed in contact after that retreat through text, phone calls and FaceTime to continue forming our friendship, which eventually led us to falling in love with each other.
Long distance relationships are difficult and we both knew we would need to make sacrifices to make it work. We decided to make monthly trips to California or Texas to see one another and to actually be able to go on in-person dates. After our first trip of seeing each other, we both knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, didn't want to do a long distance relationship for much longer and knew that our paths crossing was a divine gift from God.
Keila was flying to Dallas to do a video shoot for the label both her and Lemuel are a part of. She had received texts messages informing her that upon her arrival, she will need to attend a dinner party with the label and be dressed appropriately for "artist photos." Lemuel was her ride for the night and she could see that he was a little off, but it wasn't enough for her to fully read into things. As they arrived to the house of the dinner, everyone greeted them, they enjoyed the company of friends and a delicious dinner prepared by a chef on site. At the end of the night, everyone was sitting around a fire pit and they were discussing the vision of the video shoot for the week... When a friend, who was leading the conversation, asked if anyone else had anything they'd like to add, Lemuel spoke up and began to share his heart about how excited he is about the shoot, but most importantly that Keila was also there to be a part of it all. Then he began to direct his words to her and it was at that moment, that Keila realized he was proposing to her. She was completely shocked. Lemuel continued to share his love for her and got on one knee to propose and she said YES. And no, there were no "artist photos" that night.
