How We Met

3.21.18

Kegan: During spring break, God gave me peace in my singleness and for the first time, it felt great! Hannah: Ha! That didn't last very long..... I was also content in my singleness and was prepared to not date anyone for a while. God has quite the sense of humor! Kegan: Upon returning from my trip, Singarama was in full swing. I had danced with two other girls during our couples dance practices, but i wanted to be with the best! After a few suggestions to our director, he said he would hook me up. At practice the next night, they began to announce the couples. My name was called and the girl that accompanied my name was not who i had expected; however, our director from across the room yelled, "Oh yeah, that's good!" Hannah: Meanwhile, I was stressed out because the guys I had been paired with previously were not the best and I was not enjoying it, so I almost dropped out of the dance. I decided to give it one more practice and see who I would be paired with for the shows, and when I showed up to practice Elise told me I was going to be with Kegan. I had no idea who he was so I leaned over to a friend and said, "Which one's Kegan?" She pointed him out to me and the first thing I saw was the brightest blue eyes I had ever seen. That was the first time I ever laid eyes on him and I was done for! Kegan: Elise repeated herself again, "Kegan York and Hannah Pinson". Hannah Pinson? I had no idea who this girl was, but I trusted Elise's judgment. Who knew she would be pairing me with my WIFE?! Hannah and I walked up to our spot to begin the dance. We greeted each other and i am not sure what we said after that. Hannah: I probably said something super awkward and then got really quiet. Typical! Kegan: All I remember is seeing that one freckle on her nose and that sweet dimple on her cheek. And that smile... From that night on I knew she was the one I would marry :)

The Proposal

4.19.19

Kegan: Starting on May 10, I began planning this proposal. After 11 long months, the day had finally come! Between getting her friends to help me and a lot of strategic lies, she had no idea it was coming. Hannah: I was CONVINCED he was going to propose the following week! I thought we were going to a Good Friday service downtown and that Hollyn would be going with us. Kegan told me to dress up so that raised some suspicion, but I figured he was trying to throw me off from knowing it was happening the next week. After I got ready, Hollyn told me she was coming up to my room before we left. There was a knock at the door, but when I opened it, Kegan was standing there with a single red rose. I was kind of confused at first, but then I figured he just wanted to come up and get me instead of just letting me get in the car. As we were walking down the stairs he told me Hollyn was not coming with us, and then when we got in the car he said, "I don't think we're going to make it to the Good Friday service." At this point I started freaking out because I realized what was happening and I started crying. We hadn't even done anything yet and I was already crying! Kegan: Typical. Hannah: *eye roll* Kegan drove me to Mafiaoza's and we had dinner in the same spot where we had our first date. So special! After dinner we went back to campus and Kegan sang me a song that he wrote for me. Tears round 2! It was beautiful. We walked into South Allen right to the spot where we first met and he read me a letter he wrote in 2017 entitled "To The Girl I Will Propose To." We danced and enjoyed being together for a few minutes before moving to the next part of his plan. For the grand finale, we went to Collins and walked up on the stage where we had danced in Singarama. He had a table set up with photos and memories from our relationship. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said YES! Some of my closest friends were there and it was absolutely perfect!

We Got Married Early!

3.20.20

In March we were counting down the days to our wedding on August 1 and were starting to get antsy. We had been engaged for almost a year already! COVID-19 hit the US hard and our mission trip to Guatemala got canceled, so we decided to take a little trip to NYC instead and see family in NJ. We had a blast, but when we got back we got a call from Hannah's sister, Gabby, saying she might get deployed and be out of the country during the wedding on August 1. It is SO important to Hannah for Gabby to be at the wedding, and with all the unknowns of COVID-19 we decided to go ahead and get married with just our families over the weekend! We went down to Navarre Beach, FL where Gabby is currently stationed and were married on the beach surrounded by our families on March 20, 2020. It was such a beautiful little ceremony and we loved getting to be married without worrying about what we wore, the photos, or the food. We got to just be present in the moment and focus on getting married! We are still hoping to have our big wedding with our family and friends to celebrate our marriage, but we have had a blissful few months of being newlyweds. We hope to see you on August 1 to celebrate with us!
