Corey and Kareem first met only a few short weeks after they graduated college in 2013. As luck would have it both Corey and Kareem were placed in Philadelphia, PA for their Teach For America experience. Corey and Kareem were both immediately drawn to one anothers passion for education. However, Corey claims it was Kareem's handsome charm, and good looks that drew her to Kareem. Kareem on the other hand says he noticed Corey's playful nature, and athleticism. The two became quick friends, and would frequently spend time together over the next two years but only ever as friends. In 2015 Corey had the opportunity to visit a school in Denver, CO where Kareem had moved to open a new middle school. Corey and Kareem reconnected over the holiday weekend and quickly realized they wanted to explore being more than just friends. Corey moved to Denver in 2016 to open a new high school and the rest is history. The last four years have been filled with laughs, hikes, memories, traveling, and PLANTS!

Corey and Kareem first traveled to San Diego on a whim when they wanted to meet up somewhere warm for a quick weekend getaway. Kareem escaping the cold in Denver, and Corey trying to get a few days of sunshine while she was living on the east coast. From that point forward, traveling to San Diego became a yearly tradition, and a favorite place to watch the NBA playoffs. Kareem always knew he wanted to propose to Corey in San Diego given the special place it held within their relationship. Despite months of planning, Corey is hard to keep a secret from and although she had an idea that Kareem would pop the question on the trip; Kareem still had a few tricks up his sleeve. Kareem planned a romantic sunset hike in La Jolla before an ocean-side dinner, there on a swing that overlooks the coast Kareem asked Corey to marry him because, "They have fun together." Despite Kareem's loss for words, Corey said "YES!" The surprises continued throughout the weekend culminating in Corey and Kareem's closest friends surprising Corey at her favorite brunch spot in San Diego, The Little Lion. It was a wonderful weekend full of sunshine, champagne brunch, and of course a Celtics playoff loss!
