Deep in the Costa Rican rain forest, we ascended to the top of Vulcan Irazu. We soon became level with the clouds and visibility began to dwindle. Arriving at the entrance to the crater, we set off for what Ali believed to be just another hike on our trip. Looking around us, we felt as if we were on the moon. Grey volcanic dirt covered the ground accompanied by a thick, unrelenting mist. A nearby tour guide mentioned that the crater had been covered for days and was not coming out anytime soon. Nevertheless, I had not traveled all this way to let the weather spoil my plans. Posing for a picture, I went down on one knee and put it all on the line. SHE SAID YES! Overwhelmed with excitement, I yelled with joy! As soon as Ali had spoken, the clouds parted and like a beam, the sun showed us the crater.
