We met the Monday morning after Thanksgiving 2019. Ryan had been on call that weekend and I had traveled home to Kentucky to spend the holiday with my family. After being jet lagged and irritable waking up early for surgery, I decided after much consideration that it probably WAS a good idea to put on makeup that day (whew!), I passed Ryan as we were walking in and out of the Materials Management office at the hospital at 7am and he flashed me a Ryan smile and said "good morning" I secretly said a very selfish prayer for us to be in the same room (and not competitors reps) and my wish came true when I walked into the OR and saw him! We did two surgeries together that day, exchanged phone numbers and I immediately texted him when we left the hospital, saying that I would love to take him up on his offer to show me around Newport Beach! He asked me on a date for the next night, and the rest, as they say, is history ;)
Ryan and I quickly decided on forever in our relationship and had our wedding date picked a few months before we were even engaged! During quarantine, one of our favorite activities was going on picnics. Picnics became our "thing" and are now very special to us. I had a hunch that Ryan would propose to me on a picnic so I knew that any picnic after we had both officially met each other's families in person, would be fair game! Little did I know that Ryan would completely throw me off and propose on the first picnic thereafter! We walked over to our usual spot and there was at least 5 cameras set up with signs that said "shooting squirrels" and I thought it a little odd that Ryan wanted to set up right in the middle of them! When he started his proposal speech, I immediately started crying and asking "is this a picnic? is this a picnic?" and it was in fact, THE picnic and the most beautiful and special moment in one of our favorite spots!
