FAQs

The Wedding Website of Keely Hyslop and Terence Curran
Here is some important information about our wedding and reception. If we've forgotten anything or if you have any additional questions please let us know when you RSVP or by text or email and we'll give you the answer and then add the information here.
Question

Covid-19 otherwise known as coronvirus - how does it effect the wedding?

Answer

Keely and Terence regret to inform you that our wedding has been postponed until further notice due to the current situation with COVID-19. This was not a decision we came to lightly, but due to the recent state of emergency declared in Oregon, our venue making the decision to close for two weeks to reduce the risk of transmission, and the public health guidelines against gatherings, we felt it appropriate to cancel and wait to reschedule a date until more is known about the pandemic. We are sorry for the short notice and stress this decision may cause our guests. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make this sudden change of plans easier on you. In many cases it may be easier to request a postponement of plane or train tickets rather than a refund. Rest assured the event will take place at a future time and the new event date will be communicated to you as soon as it is possible to set one.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Something that makes you feel fabulous. Something that makes you feel like dancing. Something you will make you smile when you look at pictures of yourself wearing it.

Question

What should I bring?

Answer

Bring a friend or a date if you like. Plus ones are welcome, just be sure to RSVP them so that we know they are coming and can lavish them with food and chairs. Bring a photo-capturing device. We’ll have a means of sharing the photos worked out before the wedding and will announce it here. Thank you in advance for helping us capture our big day. Bring a second gift if you want to. We have a registry with ideas or a honeymoon fund. Both are entirely optional. The first gift you gave us was the honor of your presence at our wedding. Thank you in advance for that.

Question

Is there anything I shouldn’t bring?

Answer

Glitter, confetti, and balloons are all off limits at the carousel. They scare the horses and we will be fined if they’re found on the premises. No outside food or drink. All refreshments must be pre-approved by the carousel. Alcohol will not be served at the wedding (we’ll have other bubbly for toasting) and can’t be on the premises. No weaponry at the carousel. Deadly dance moves are acceptable.

Question

Can I ride the carousel?

Answer

Yeppers peppers! The carousel will be available for rides and photographs immediately following the ceremony until the end of the reception.

Question

Anything I should know before getting on the carousel?

Answer

No food or drinks allowed on the carousel. The animals are on a strict diet. Only one rider per animal. You'll make your getaway faster if your co-conspirator has their own steed anyway. No riding side-saddle. It’s just too old fashioned. No standing up or switching animals while the ride is in motion. If Keely and Terence can commit to being married for the rest of their lives, you certainly can commit to a single carousel animal for three minutes of rotation. If you’d like the carousel to remain stationary while you take a few pictures, the volunteer carousel operator will be happy to accommodate you, just be sure to let them know. For those with young ones remember that all riders under 42” tall must be accompanied by an adult.

Question

I’m a smoker! I admit it! Any advice?

Answer

Our wedding is a safe space for all, even those prone to spontaneous combustion. Nevertheless we would be remiss if we did not point out the inconvenience of such a state adjacent a wooden contraption housed within a wooden structure. It is the preference of the carousel and its inhabitants that all smoking take place outside and a minimum of 10 feet from the building.

Question

I want to stay forever! Can I?

Answer

If only, but alas! The reception will end at 10pm and the post-reception cleanup party will begin. Everyone and everything we brought in with us must be gone by 10:30pm and not a minute past. By 10:15pm the volunteers will be singing the carousel creatures their lullabies, reading them nightly bedtime stories, and getting those final glasses of water. If we linger much longer they'll never get any sleep.

Question

How do I get to Albany, OR?

Answer

Just like Steve Martin and John Candy, we’ll take Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Question

Planes?

Answer

Most of those coming from out of state will be flying into PDX airport. From there you’ll find multiple transit options for getting to us, your hotel room, or our wedding in Albany, OR.

Question

Trains?

Answer

Amtrak has a station in both Portland, OR and Albany, OR. Oh the possibilities! Fares are also pretty inexpensive: between $12 - $32 round trip depending upon how early you get your tickets. That’s the good news. The bad news is the last train from Albany to Portland leaves just after 5pm which is prior to when our ceremony starts so you’d need to either stay the night in Albany and leave in the morning or find another way home in the evening (perhaps through our glamorous and exciting adopt a pedestrian program).

Question

Automobiles?

Answer

There are two bus services that regularly run between Portland, OR and Albany, OR: the Amtrak Thruway and the Boltbus. The length of the trip is about 1.75 - 2 hours. If you buy your tickets early the price can be as low as $10 round trip. Similar to the train ride, you’ll need an overnight stay or another ride back since the last bus leaves around 7pm at which point will be mid-ceremony.

Question

Can’t I just drive?

Answer

If you insist...Truthfully traveling by personal vehicle is probably the best available option because it provides the greatest level of flexibility with travel times and our reception will be ending quite late by public transportation standards. The drive is a scenic 1.5 - 2 hours through Oregon countryside without traffic. The directions are pretty straightforward: get on I-5 South and exit 234B. Plus have you heard about our popular adopt a pedestrian program? Please mention in your RSVP if you are interested in being a participant.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

Hmm... so many choices. Keely and Terence live in Tualatin, OR so you should stay there if you want to be closest to them. Be warned that you’ll be in constant danger of being sucked into last minute wedding preparations given your close proximity to the vortex. Albany, OR is where the wedding will be. Albany is a lovely and quaint, if somewhat sleepy community located on the outskirts of Salem, OR, the state capital. Portland, OR is where you should stay if you have some time to play Oregon tourist since it’s where most of the state’s fun is kept (aside from the carousel of course). If you need assistance with lodging I’m sure you’re not the only one. Let us know when you RSVP and Keely and Terence will see what they can do to assist.
