How We Met

We met at the gym through our mutual friend Mike. After several months of "hellos" and nods as we passed each other, that same friend set us up on a hike (frankly, I should have known better: Mike wasn't a hiker, so I should have been suspicious when he agreed to go). When I stopped by the gym to pick up Mike, he told me he couldn't go but Dylan would take his place. As in everything else, Dylan was a good sport and agreed to go with me, notwithstanding the fact that he was wearing completely gripless Jordans or Air Force 1s. He sealed the deal for me when I chose to take the steepest way down the mountain and he insisted on going in front of me (in his gripless shoes!) to break my fall if I started to tumble (there was like a 93% chance of this happening). The rest is history!

How He Asked

Everyone says they knew something was up right before their S/O proposed. I was genuinely clueless. It was a weekend that Dylan was able to get away from work and come to Bozeman, and we'd planned on going for a drive and a little hike. We settled on checking out Ringing Rocks near Homestake Pass and the morning was just like any other morning together. In hindsight, the fact that he asked if I had my tripod should have tipped me off, but I figured he'd finally gotten used to my propensity for grabbing a few photos of us on our adventures. Regardless, I hadn't grabbed it, so we turned around at the end of the block to pick it up. When we got to the parking lot, we met a lady who was looking for something long to try to retrieve the camera she'd just dropped down one of the gaps between the massive rocks that make up the hill. Not a comforting start as I'm packing my camera and equipment up the hill. When we got to the top, Dylan made me perch against the highest rock while he set up the tripod and camera a few boulders over. He had it set to self timer and I was worried about him having to race the timer over boulders to make it, but he did. He pulled out the ring just as the timer went off and we have my favorite photo of us as a result. He done good!
