When We Met

11.10.18

We first met online on a dating app called MeetMe. I was on the app for 3 days when I received a message from Josh; he commented on a picture of me and Pumba (my cat). I quickly found out that he also had a cat, Ginger AKA Ginny. We chatted for a few months before deciding on meeting in person. Josh lived in Chesapeake, VA and I was in Easton, MD (about a 4-hour drive). Josh's mom was conveniently going to a convention in College Park, MD that Josh was also going to attend, so he made a pit stop to see me on his way. It was during the Waterfowl Festival and I was going to meet him there, but I may have blown him off because of a migraine. I did however invite him to dinner that night instead. Our first date consisted of In Japan hibachi, where Josh talked cars with someone else at our table more than he talked to me. We went to Tutti Frutti next door afterward for dessert. It was apparent that neither of us wanted the date to end, so I suggested a movie across the street. The next showing was the newest animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas so that's what we watched. The night ended and Josh made his way to College Park the next morning. He wanted to see me again the next morning on his way home, but I had college work to finish and we ended up not seeing each other again. We continued to message each other, as well as plan dates back and forth between Maryland and Virginia. It was 5 months later that we decided to make our relationship "official" and the rest is history.

The Proposal

02.09.20

Josh's hobbies include cars, fishing, and guns. Josh took me to a gun range one day where I impressed him with my shooting. We then started going to that same gun range pretty regularly. On this day, in particular, my mom was visiting us in VA and Josh wanted to take her to the range. Nothing suspicious about that, right? He said we'd be getting there before they opened because he had made an appointment to get one of his handguns professionally cleaned. I thought nothing of it, he's a member of this range and I assumed this type of special treatment was fine. The range was set up, one of the employees escorted us to a lane where he said someone had left a target up and we were able to use it. I was about to shoot first when Josh stopped me. He told me that he loved me and got on one knee. The employee turned the target around that read "will you marry me?" Josh, still on his knee, asked me to marry him and through tears, I said yes. After Josh stood back up, he and the employee said I had to shoot the target in either circle marked "yes" or "no." Shaking, I said "What if I miss?" and laughed. My handgun had 5 rounds in it, I got 4 rounds in the yes circle and 1 hit on the word itself. Afterward, we enjoyed our range time with my mom.
