Keegan didn't know he was going to propose that day. It was a regular Wednesday, nothing special about it. But the sun was shining, and we were both smiling, happy and in love. So why not? With the ring hidden in his pants pocket, one hand holding it to the side of his leg so he didn't lose it, he took me to the park for what I thought was a ordinary walk. We walked the half mile route, going around the curve to a pretty blue bench by the river. We were standing looking at the water that was higher than usual because of snow melting, I was thinking about a broken tree laying on the bank. His arm was around my waist, then his hand was holding mine. I wasn't really paying attention to what he was doing, so when he tugged my hand to spin me around to face him I was shocked to see him on one knee holding a beautiful ring in-between his fingers. "Will you marry me?" it was one question that would decide the course of the rest of our lives. The biggest decision I had ever been asked to make. But there was only one answer, no other thought went through my mind but the words that I spoke back to him. "Of course!"
Two different shifts, only a ten to fifteen minute period where these two people are in the same place at the same time. The odds seem very slim that anything could ever happen, right? Right? When I started working I trained on first shift for a week, the perfect opportunity for Keegan to make his move. But fate was against that happily ever after happening any sooner than it intended, and Keegan was on vacation in Tennessee that whole first week. The perfect opportunity was lost and I went to second shift. Of course Keegan came back to work and immediately noticed when an absolute goddess arrived right when it was time for him to go. Jaw on the floor he stared as any reasonable man does when they see someone they deem to be attractive. I, of course, was in my own world and saw nothing but the floor in front of me. So now is the part where he says hi and asks me out, or so you might think. Keegan is shy and afraid of rejection, which is fair, most of us are, and was not ready to ask me out. Not for a really really really long time. And so came months of him staring every day when I walked in, and smiling at me. Even I am not so oblivious that I didn't notice, and I eventually realized that he seemed to like me. I had heard he was sweet so I smiled at him like any nice girl would do. Things went on like this for awhile. Once Keegan managed to talk to me for a minute about work, which was huge. And he decided he liked the sound of my voice, which was nice but got us nowhere. Truthfully, I should have asked him out but I wanted him to do it so I didn't. After seven months of wishful stares Keegan said Happy Birthday to me, it was sweet and I appreciated it. Now if anyone is still reading after seven months of staring, we're finally at the good part. Two days after the Happy Birthday, on February 6th at 6:01 pm Keegan messaged me on Instagram and asked me if I would go on a date with him, I said yes. And that's how I found my soulmate.
