In February, Kristen and I finished our COVID vaccinations and wanted to celebrate with a weekend getaway. Kristen suggested we go to Newport, RI the weekend of 3/20! It was perfect because I was in the process of buying her engagement ring and needed a clever way to propose to her. I figured she planned this little trip she’d never see it coming! We made reservations at a beautiful restaurant called the Castle Hill Inn, an old Newport mansion turned in to a fancy restaurant. I found out that on the grounds of the mansion is an old lighthouse on a cliff. We’d be dressed up fancy for dinner and it will be a great view. Perfect right? Now how do I not make it obvious to Kristen this is gonna happen? I said why don’t we get there early so we can take the trail to the lighthouse and take some pictures? She loved the idea! So I hired a photographer to hide in the bushes near the lighthouse and place a little table with flowers to mark the spot for a perfect picture. We walked through the trail until we saw the lighthouse! I noticed the little table with flowers right away and my heart started beating out of my chest. Luckily Kristen didn’t notice my heart palpitations because she was too busy trying to make sure she didn’t break an ankle on the rocky trail in her Louboutins! She finally noticed the flowers and said “Aw those are so cute!” Then I started digging in my jacket pocket and Kristen knew exactly what was about to happen. I dropped to a knee and asked the most important question to the most amazing girl in the world. She said YES! She has no idea what words I said to her, she was in such shock! It couldn’t have gone any better. We had a little photo shoot and finished the amazing night with a great dinner at the restaurant. It was the perfect proposal for the perfect girl. After our dinner we returned to our hotel, ate cold chicken fingers, and drank wine out of plastic cups while we called our families who were anxiously awaiting! Perfect way to end the night!
