This incredible event will be going on from June 8-11 all throughout downtown and Douglas. For four days every other June, the streets of Juneau fill with Native people of all ages dressed in the signature regalia of clans from throughout Southeast Alaska and beyond. There is traditional song and dance. Arts and crafts. Food. And people speaking local Native languages. This is Celebration, our biennial festival of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures. Celebration is one of the largest gatherings of Southeast Alaska Native peoples and is the second-largest event sponsored by Alaska Natives in the State of Alaska.
A great place to take a walk on the only sandy beach in Juneau. There are options to take a self-guided tour of the Treadwell mine where, at its peak, was among the largest gold mining operations in the world. This is also where Max and Kaitlyn got engaged!
Hike (2.5 miles) or take the tram (2.5 minutes) up to the top of Mount Roberts for epic views of the Gastineau channel and the surrounding mountains. There is a restaurant, bar, and nature center at the top. Bonus points if you see a porcupine! The tram is run by Goldbelt, which is an Alaska Native corporation headquartered in Juneau, incorporated in 1974 as a result of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA).
