Kaylyn and Nick met the way everyone who was bored during the pandemic did: online. They chatted for a month before Kaylyn was brave enough to go on a first date with Nick. It was February 2021 and also Kaylyn's first time eating out since NYC shut down due to COVID. Nick picked a Mexican restaurant on the Upper East Side as it's Kaylyn's favorite cuisine. He got to there early, told the waiter he was waiting for his date, and ordered himself a drink. Kaylyn, who lived in West Harlem and hadn't ventured to the Upper East Side often, was 30 minutes late for their date. Nick started to get worried he was being stood up as Kaylyn had already rescheduled their date once, but she apologized over text and reassured him she was on her way. As soon as Kaylyn arrived, the waiter celebrated her arrival and brought them both free shots (out of pity for Nick, they believe!) During the middle of their date, Kaylyn's mom began calling her repeatedly, and she worried that something was wrong. Since they had finished eating Kaylyn told Nick she should leave and call her mom back. Nick put Kaylyn in a Uber, said "Goodnight", and Kaylyn called her mom back. Upon answering, her mom asked, "How was your date?" Kaylyn yelled, "I was still on my date! I thought something was wrong!" She then regretted telling her mom she had a date in the first place. Regardless to all the hiccups of their first date, Nick still asked Kaylyn on a second date. This time, Nick showed Kaylyn how to make her own sushi, which is her absolute favorite food! Obviously that sealed the deal, and the rest is history. They have been inseparable ever since. To this day, Kaylyn tells Nick how lucky he is because she had always refused to go on dates from dating apps. But with Nick, something felt different, and she's so glad she went.
