This historic park at Stage Head is the site of the first settlers of Gloucester, dating back to 1623 when they first set up their fishing “stages” on land. Today, it’s home to two popular beaches, a busy playground, two baseball fields, a basketball court, picnic benches, and a dog park.
Explore this medieval-style castle built from 1926-1929 by Dr. John Hays Hammond, Jr. to house his collection of Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance artifacts as well as his Research Corporation, which produced over 400 patents and ideas for over 800 inventions, second only to Thomas Edison.
Take some time to explore this eclectic arts neighborhood featuring unique galleries, boutiques, and restaurants in colorful, historic houses. There are two main gallery locations as well as the many artistic establishments that are dotted along the charming peninsula. Free parking is available.
