How We Met

It started with a song

August and I met online via our university's Facebook page before our freshman year. We hit it off immediately, messaging each other every day for eight months until we met in person in August of 2018. We recorded fun (and awkward) duets together, shared photos from China and America, and had a few embarrassing video chats (I was sunburned and windblown in the first one, which made for a fun first impression!) At the end of the summer of 2018, August sent me a song he wrote, "inspired" by our daily conversations. Here are some of the lyrics: "You are my sunlight in the dark. Though we're a thousand miles apart." It was very romantic, but we both didn't want to start a relationship before meeting in person. After a month of great friendship in Michigan, August and I confessed we were interested in each other and started dating in September. Aww! Throughout our three and a half years of dating and struggling through college, we've grown immensely in our faith and thank God each day for bringing us together. He connected two contradicting cultures and we have learned how to accept each other as people with different cultural pasts. It's been a wonderful experience. This is our story. We're so excited to share it with you!
