How We Met

Catfished on a Dating App

It was April of 2021, and Kayley had an upcoming trip planned to visit a friend in Washington, DC. Newly single and looking for something to do on the Friday that she arrived, Kayley decided to set herself up on a Hinge date. Shortly thereafter, she matched with a guy named Ian who appeared to share the same passion for the outdoors as her (and was incredibly handsome)! The two chatted online for the week or so leading up to Kayley's trip and made plans to grab drinks while she was in town. The running joke between the two is that Kayley "catfished" Ian due to the fact that she lived in New York at the time and exaggerated her frequency of visits to the area. Kayley, however, claims that she was extremely transparent with Ian from the get-go regarding her living situation. On Saturday night, the two grabbed beers and oysters (a first for Kayley) at The Salt Line in Navy Yard and were instantly captivated by each other. Wanting to get to know each other more, Kayley and Ian continued to plan weekend trips to visit one another. These weekend trips included apple picking in upstate New York (a first for Ian) and exploring the various museums and restaurants in Washington, DC. After dating long-distance for a year, Kayley took a leap of faith and moved to Washington, DC to be with Ian. Although it was tough for Kayley to leave her job, family and friends up north, it was one of the best decisions that she ever made because it led to this moment...
