Flight
Most visitors arrive via Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), located about 15 miles from downtown. From the airport, you can take a taxi, rideshare, or an airport shuttle to your hotel.
Rental Car
While not always necessary, renting a car can be useful if you plan to explore areas outside of the main tourist districts, such as plantations or swamps. Keep in mind that parking in the city can be challenging and expensive.
Travel Note
Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are readily available throughout the city. They are a convenient option for getting from the airport to your hotel and for traveling around the city.
Travel Note
New Orleans' iconic streetcars are a fun and scenic way to explore the city. There are four main lines: St. Charles, Canal Street, Riverfront, and Rampart/St. Claude. The St. Charles line, in particular, offers a charming ride through the historic Garden District.
Travel Note
Many of New Orleans' popular attractions are within walking distance of each other, especially in the French Quarter and downtown areas. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the vibrant street scenes.
