We met in the middle of our second semester in college. I sat at the very front of the class, and Luke moved to the seat directly behind me where he spent the entire semester trying to build up the courage to talk to me (his own words) while I was trying and failing to pay more attention to the class than him. We didn't begin chatting and hanging out until the middle of our Mineralogy class during our sophomore year. We had an on-and-off friendship during the next few semesters but just couldn't keep each other out of our thoughts.
We reconnected in March of 2020. But didn't start actually dating until April (a pandemic romance). From that point on, we tried to spend every spare minute with each other. Our first official date was at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, where we spent hours in the mineral collection talking about all the science we learned in our Mineralogy class. We've been inseparable ever since!
My mom and some family friends planned a girls' weekend in Houston to go see the Van Gogh exhibit and to visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science. While we were in the mineral collection in the museum, Luke walked into the gem vault and proposed! He waited until I was in the same spot on our first date when I started talking about which gems I liked the best. Afterward, both of our families went to a nice dinner where we laughed and celebrated the happiest day (for now) of our lives.
