How We Met

It all started with subtle glances from across Sacred Heart Church during noon mass. Eventually, we formally met at a youth catechism weekend retreat. The retreat came to an end and Diego realized that he had no way of contacting Kaylee, so he asked his cousin to ask her friend for Kaylee's number. We stayed in contact until Diego finally asked Kaylee to be his girlfriend 2 years later on April 26th, 2016 at exactly 1:20 p.m. (he timed this so he would always know EXACTLY how long we were together). We have watched each other grow over these past years and have become best friends. We have gone through 2 high school graduations and 3 college graduations together, always being there for one another. We are now looking forward to our wedding day, taking place on May 7th, 2022 at 2 p.m. marking EXACTLY 6 years 11 days, and 40 minutes that we will be together and the beginning of our future.

The Engagement

Our 5 year anniversary was coming up and Diego kept assuring me that he was planning something since we were unable to celebrate the previous year due to the pandemic. I wasn't expecting anything very big but little did I know he was mapping out how he would propose. The day of he told me we were going to have a quiet dinner with takeout from our favorite restaurant. Once we picked up our dinner he told me we would be going to another location to eat, which I assumed was a park but ended up being his brother's house where he had set up a table, candles, and twinkling lights in their backyard (this would explain why he was "helping his brother" a few days before). When we finished dinner he took me to get ice cream and then we headed all the way up Sandia Crest (he had been wanting to take this drive since we had moved to Albuquerque). After the hour and a half drive up the mountain in the middle of the night, we finally made it and overlooked all the city lights when I turned and saw him down on one knee. Of course, I said yes sobbing uncontrollably while shivering from the freezing cold. This moment will be one I remember always.
