The couple met 16 years ago while Kaylea’s grandma, Dena Weidner, was teaching AJ’s kindergarten class in Millboro SD. Then, in first grade AJ changed schools to Colome and went to school with Kaylea until 6th grade when she left for Spearfish. Senior year Kaylea moved home and started hanging out with AJ all the time until finally two years later they became more than friends and now, two years later, are getting married.
AJ took Kaylea on a drive to go look for coyotes and then ended up taking her up to the top of a hill on his family’s farm that overlooked the cattle, horses, and barn. When he got to the top of the hill he got out of the vehicle and said to come look at the sky with him. Kaylea got out and there was AJ, on one knee with the ring box open and the ring upside down.
