How We Met

First comes school, then comes marriage

We have known of each other ever since we were little. For the longest time, I never spoke to Cody when we were around each other. I thought he was the weird kid and quite honestly, I'm not sure he knew my name either. We knew who each others parents were and that we were in the same grade as each other. We knew nothing more. Then, sophomore year came. Cody, DJ Lambert and I were placed in a group together for our NHD project in World History class. What I thought was the most boring class ever, became the class I looked forward to everyday. Later that semester, as a cheerleader, I needed to pick a guy to dance with me during the guy/girl routine. So, I asked both Cody and DJ. DJ insisted Cody dance with me. If anyone knows Cody, they know he is not the type of person to get in front of tons of people and dance. Thankfully, between DJ and I nagging him, Cody finally agreed to do the dance. We both had a blast. After that, we were constantly finding ways to hang out. Our parents were under the impression that we were doing our NHD projects quite often, as that was our excuse to hang out.

When It Became Official

May 31, 2012

Cody came up to me as I was grabbing my book bag to leave school for the day. He then asked if I wanted to go to his little brother, Kyle's, baseball game at the Maple Rapids baseball field. He then disclosed that he had to Ump the game, but thought it would be cool if I came. Very confused, I bluntly said, "Why would I want to do that?" Him, "Because I want to ask you something!" Me, "If you want to ask me to be your girlfriend, why don't you just ask me now??" Cody, "Okay, will you be my girlfriend?" And obviously I said yes and here we are 8+ years later.

The Engagement Day

October 4, 2019

During the summer, Cody and I planned to go on a trip to the Upper Peninsula. We were looking forward to this trip, as it was our first trip to the U.P. together, and it had been a few years since we went on a trip with just the two of us. We crossed the bridge late the night before, slept in our car, then woke up bright and early and headed to Tahquamenon Falls. We walked to the Lower Falls and it was beautiful with the changing colored leaves in the background. I asked Cody if he would take a selfie with me and so we did. Then, Cody recommends that we have a stranger take an actual picture of us. A family of 3 were near, so I asked the teen boy to take our picture. The boy asked if the picture was good enough, I said yes. Cody said no! He wanted another picture. Immediately, I knew something was off. I turned towards Cody to take another picture and Cody was on his knee. He cut to the chase and asked me to marry him. I have never seen him so nervous, I thought he was going to drop the ring, as he was shaking like a leaf in the wind. I said yes! And cried a little. The family of three cheering loudly for us. After that, we hiked to the Upper Falls and back...not intentionally... but I wouldn't change that day. It was the best day yet!
