Frick Park is Kayla's personal favorite, but each park is pretty incredible. They are all gorgeous, escapes into nature without leaving the City. The Frick Environmental Center houses a Lending Library, which includes various assistive resources, including hiking poles, rollators, sensory bags, and more! Plus, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy hosts lots of events -- maybe try Forest Bathing while you're in town?
Phipps is a must-see! Their current flower show is Alice in Wonderland - check it out! Phipps is also located in Schenley Park, one of the five Pittsburgh Regional Parks, and right near our alma mater, University of Pittsburgh.
Cole and I love the five art galleries downtown with rotating exhibitions and FREE admission: Wood Street Galleries, Space, 707 Gallery, 820 Gallery, and 937 Gallery. Also: Visit Arts Landing, a brand new, outdoor community-focused space with public art, events, food trucks, and more! (and let us know how it is because we haven't been yet!) See public art placed throughout the Cultural District, including several artist-designed, functional bike racks. Visit the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, one of the largest Black multidisciplinary arts centers in the country. Catch a play, musical, comedy set, or a film at one of the theaters!
This is an AWESOME museum. There's something for everyone here, even if you're not all that into history: Sports fan? Check out the Franco Harris Sports Museum. Foodie? There's an entire exhibit on Heinz (yes, of Heinz ketchup). Science geek? Check out the exhibit on Pittsburgh Innovation -- there's an entire section dedicated to medical and technological innovations. Fun fact: Dr. Jonas Salk developed the first effective polio vaccine at the University of Pittsburgh! Trying to get your steps in? Take the SmartSteps! (There's a prize for climbing all six sets of stairs 🥒) Looking for a good neighbor? Visit Mister Rogers' Neighborhood! Fred Rogers is from Latrobe, PA, about an hour outside of Pittsburgh, and his show was filmed here, in Pittsburgh.
