The Proposal

11.28.20

On our anniversary month of when we first met each other, Trent had planned a vacation for us to fly back to my hometown in Wisconsin to visit my family. A few days into our vacation Trent asked if I would want to go hiking on a trail and I said "yes" not knowing this would be the day he would propose. The day before our hiking trip my mother had told me that she wanted to get our nails done together. This wasn't anything out of the ordinary since that was something we did often when I lived in Wisconsin. On the day of the hike, my mother and Trent went on a "Starbucks" run together while I got ready for the day. After being gone for over an hour I started to wonder if something bad had happened because Starbucks was right down the road from where Trent and I were staying. I then called Trent and asked if everything was okay and he said that my brother had locked his keys in his car so they had to go help him and they would be on their way back shortly. I fell for the story and didn't even think twice, though during that time they were actually looking for a place for him to propose to me on the trail. After about 20 minutes they finally arrived back at my grandparent's house and we all got in the car and left for the hike. Trent had let me lead the way on the trail at the Retzer Nature Center in Waukesha, WI. Shortly into the trail, we came across a boardwalk over the river and he had asked me to stop and take a picture. Thinking nothing of it, I got ready for the photo and after my mother took it I started to walk off but before I could I heard Trent say "Kayla", and as I looked back there he was on one knee asking for my hand in marriage. I was so ready to say "YES", and just like that, we were finally engaged! P.S. Our names are now engraved onto the same boardwalk we got engaged on! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Texas!
