Back in 2014, Kayla and Ricardo (Cody) met at CrossFit Madtown. Cody coached Kayla during CrossFit classes. Both were dating other people at the time. Kayla left the gym in 2015.

In early 2020, Kayla and Cody reconnected on a dating app, since Cody lived in Milwaukee and Kayla lived in Madison. Cody was determined to take Kayla on a date and drove through a February snow storm to make it happen.

With the help of family, Kayla moved from Madison to Milwaukee to move in with Cody. Kayla had purchased a bottle of champagne prior to moving to celebrate the end of long-distance. The first night that Cody and Kayla had together, Cody popped champagne, got down on one knee, and proposed! No, Kayla did not see that coming--what an incredible surprise!
