How We Met

10.16.2022

We met for our first date on a sunny Sunday afternoon, in October at the Bangor City Forest. Matt showed up with his two adorable dogs Moose and Marlee, knowing they would be thrilled to walk the four-mile loop and bog walk. As we walked and talked it was clear there was something special between us and the hours passed quickly. With the sun going down preventing us from taking another lap, we returned to the parking lot wishing we could continue walking and learning more about one another. Eager to spend more time together, we settled on a second date for the following weekend at Masons Brewing Co. As we sat at our table chatting the night away our poor waitress kept asking what we wanted, but we hadn't even cracked open the menu yet. With a few dates over the fall and early winter, we built a friendship and quickly reignited our spark, with a simple "Hey what's up" text message just as Matthew was getting ready to depart the country on a work trip in January. By then, Kayla had adopted a feisty dog, Holly, and upon Matt’s return home, brought her over to his house for a playdate. What followed was a whirlwind spring and summer romance with date nights, dog walks, construction projects, a few walk-in care trips, and adventures all over New England.

The Proposal

8.19.2023

After the father of the bride spilled the beans about Matt asking for his blessing to propose to Kayla, she started a simple routine of frisking Matt for a ring box whenever they went on a date or adventure. Matt did his best to keep her wondering, yet keeping her on her toes and ensuring she always looked cute, with freshly painted nails, and the most colorful Miss Frizzle dress her closet held. A few weeks later, Matt had a close friend visiting from out of state and planned a triple date at Masons on a rainy Saturday evening in August. While they waited in the parking lot, Kayla asked if tonight was the night, to which Matt assured her it was not. Her frisking of his pockets confirmed there was indeed no ring. Little did she know that hidden in his sock a shiny rock was awaiting its forever home upon her finger. In true romantic fashion, Matt chose a place special to them, the place where they shared their first kiss. In typical Masons' fashion, there was a wait for the table, so they decided to walk along the riverwalk as the sun had broken through the clouds. Matt's friends asked for a few cute photos of themselves and then offered the same to Matt and Kayla. Kayla turned to him to ask if he was all set with photos just as he was getting down on one knee. Thinking he was pulling her leg again, she called him a turkey but was pleasantly shocked when he pulled the ring out from hiding and asked her to marry him. With no hesitation and a giddy smile, Kayla excitedly replied "YES!" and Matt placed the ring on her finger relieved that all had gone according to plan. The rest is history! Can't wait to see you all at Streamside Events this July!
